Celta Vigo have secured their long-term future at the Balaídos stadium after signing a concession agreement with Vigo City Council for 50 years, extendable to 75. The signing took place this Sunday before the league match against Málaga, granting the club full control to commercially exploit the venue.
Vigo's mayor, Abel Caballero, described the day as historic for the city. "Today is a historic day in the city because we are handing over the concession of the Balaídos stadium which could reach 75 years, 50 plus 25," Caballero stated. He added that Celta will use the stadium for the remainder of the 21st century.
The club's president, Marián Mouriño, expressed her emotion at the deal being realized. "Very excited to make this a reality," said Mouriño. "There is a city-wide conviction that this is good for Vigo and for Celta and that it allows us to make Balaídos one of the best stadiums in the world".
The agreement extends far beyond simply leasing the pitch for official matches. Celta now assumes comprehensive commercial management of Balaídos, enabling the launch of various business ventures immediately. Planned activities include organising concerts and other events, for which the City Council may offer its support in the initial stages.
This deal provides key long-term stability for the club's planning. With the security of remaining in its historic home, Celta can now plan investments and facility improvements with a decades-long perspective.
