Celta Vigo held to a draw by Malaga, still winless

Celta Vigo remain without a win after six matches in La Liga, following a 1-1 draw at Balaídos against Malaga on Sunday 13 September under manager Claudio Giráldez.

Ferran Jutglà scored the equaliser, his first goal of the season, while Malaga's goal came from Adrian Nino. Jutglà, speaking to DAZN microphones and cited by Marca, said: "Creo que hemos tenido un par de ocasiones en la segunda parte para hacer el 2-0 y coger más ventaja." He admitted he missed one of those chances himself and said the team was not sharp enough from a corner that led to Malaga's goal.

Jutglà stays calm despite the slump

Even without results, the forward played down the concern: "No nos gusta pero no nos preocupa porque sabemos que estamos trabajando bien, en la línea de lo que nos están pidiendo." Celta Vigo now sit 15th in La Liga on 4 points from six games (0 wins, 4 draws, 2 losses), having scored three goals and conceded six, a run that leaves the club 11 points behind leaders Barcelona according to the standings.

Fans have seen this before. Celta Vigo did not win their opening match last season until 26 October, on matchday ten, when the club was competing in Europe. Balaídos has again become a problem: the team has already dropped 8 of the first 9 points available at home this season, after losing 34 points there across the whole of last season.

Giráldez shuffles his XI, gives Cáceres his debut

Giráldez made five changes from the draw against Getafe, handing a first league start to Sebastián Cáceres, the club's latest signing. Academy product Hugo Burcio also made his season debut, coming on for the final quarter of the match.

Council and club agree new Balaídos deal

Before kickoff, Vigo City Council and Celta Vigo signed an agreement handing the club the concession of the Balaídos stadium for 50 years, renewable up to 75, in a ceremony led by mayor Abel Caballero and club president Marián Mouriño.

Celta Vigo's next league fixture comes on Saturday 19 September, when they host Racing Santander, currently 10th in the table, at Balaídos, with Borja Iglesias, Iago Aspas and Jones El-Abdellaoui still sidelined without a return date given, per the club's injuries list.
