Celta Vigo B suffered a 3-2 defeat away to Sporting Gijón in LaLiga Hypermotion, a result that extends the reserve team's winless run. The match, played on Sunday 4 October at the Estadio El Molinón, was decided by late goals after a failed comeback from the Celeste side.

Claudio Giráldez's team found themselves 2-0 down in the first half. Sporting's Antonio Casas opened the scoring with a direct free-kick and added a second from close range. Celta Fortuna responded before the break, with Aldrine Kibet pulling one back with a powerful strike from outside the box, assisted by Álvaro Marín.

Frustrated Comeback

The second half began at 2-1 with the visitors pushing for an equaliser. Their best chance came from a counter-attack finished by Óscar Marcos with a shot across goal from the centre of the box, levelling the score. The joy was short-lived. Shortly after, Guille Rosas restored Sporting's lead with a shot from the right side of the six-yard box, sealing the points. The winning goal came in the 87th minute, leaving Celta Fortuna with just one point from the last nine available.

The match had a major moment of tension when the referee showed a straight red card to Celta defender Pablo Meixús. After a VAR review, the decision was overturned, keeping Celta Fortuna at full strength. Quique Ribes and Anxo Rodríguez were booked for dangerous play, on an afternoon where the manager made five substitutions in an attempt to turn the game around.

Context for Both Sides

This defeat leaves Celta Fortuna in a negative spiral, having taken just one point from the last nine available in the second division. The team, which started the season strongly, has now gone three consecutive matches without a win. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo's first team sits 14th in La Liga with seven points, preparing for their next fixture away to Elche.

For their part, Sporting Gijón secured their second win in the last five matchdays, keeping them in mid-table positions, away from the promotion spots for now. The Asturian side showed efficiency in attack, scoring three goals from four clear chances, a statistic that contrasts with their overall season numbers.

The Celta Fortuna manager used the full depth of his bench, bringing on Jan Oliveras, David Sueiro, Jorge Pérez-Lafuente, Vladimir Silva and Ángel Arcos to try and change the game's rhythm. Despite the effort, the defence could not withstand the final local assault. The B team squad, which you can review in detail in our squad section, must react quickly to end this poor run. The first team's next commitment is on 11 October at Elche, a rival currently sitting 18th in the table.
