Javi Rodríguez has committed his long-term future to Celta Vigo by signing a contract extension until June 2030. The club announced the two-year renewal on Thursday, 8 October, securing a key homegrown defender for their project.

The 23-year-old, a product of the A Madroa academy since the Benjamín B category, has become a regular under manager Claudio Giráldez. With over 90 official appearances, Rodríguez made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey against Turégano on 1 November 2023. Last season, he started 28 of his 33 LaLiga EA Sports matches and featured in 12 Europa League games.

His rise earned him a senior Spain debut in a friendly against Iraq at Riazor on 4 June. "Very happy and grateful," the player stated after the renewal. Rodríguez said his aim is to "make the best possible years here" and thanked the supporters, whose backing he hopes to feel at Balaídos in the next home match.

The academy graduate acknowledges areas for improvement, noting that Giráldez consistently advises him to get stronger physically. With three goals and five assists for Celta, the Poio-born defender is focused on contributing more in both defence and attack.

The new deal comes as Celta sit 14th in La Liga with 7 points from seven games, their recent form highlighted by a 5-0 win over Racing Santander. The team now faces a demanding run of fixtures, starting with a trip to bottom-placed Elche on 11 October. Javi Rodríguez, already with four league appearances and one in the Europa League this term, has his sights set on that immediate challenge.
