Celta Vigo have taken a decisive step in their long-term planning by approving a record 107 million euro budget for the 2026-27 season. The club's shareholders, meeting this Tuesday at the Salón Regio de A Sede in Vigo, also backed a 10 million euro capital increase, expandable to 20 million, to fund the strategic Celta360 project. The board, representing 69.27% of the share capital, greenlit these measures as the team competes from eighth place in La Liga, with 11 points from nine matches.

The renewal of the board of administration was another key item on the agenda. José Maroto, a Costa Rican businessman, and Manuel Villanueva, a journalist, joined as new board members. In their place, Xisela Aranda and José Álvarez completed their terms and left the body. These moves aim to bring fresh perspectives to drive the club's vision, after it closed the previous campaign with profits exceeding 100 million euros.

Strategic vision for Celta360

The core of the approved strategy is the Celta360 project, an initiative designed to strengthen youth development and sporting innovation without jeopardising the main sporting project. The stated goal is to consolidate the team in high table positions to aspire to European competition. The board emphasised that the last two years in Europe certify that working in the same direction can make a European Celta a reality. As part of this expansion, the ABANCA Balaídos stadium will host new spaces like Conxemar, the La Aldeana restaurant, and the Taberna Celta.

This financial and governance push comes during a period of inconsistent on-pitch performance. The team, managed by Rafa Benítez, has a recent record of two wins, one draw, and two defeats in its last five matches. Its latest victory was a 2-1 home win over Alavés, with goals from Ferran Jutglà and Javier Rodríguez Galiano. Attention now turns to a tough fixture against fourth-placed Real Betis next Saturday, 25 October.

With eleven points and a +3 goal difference, Celta sit sixteen points behind leaders Barcelona. The budget approval and board renewal show the club's intent to build a solid foundation for the future, protecting the sporting project while investing in long-term growth. The immediate next step is the home match against Betis at Balaídos.
