Celta Vigo bolster defense with Abdoulaye Faye loan
Celta Vigo have announced the signing of Senegalese defender Abdoulaye Faye on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen. This is the club's third summer addition for the 2026-27 campaign, following the arrivals of defender Javi Galán and midfielder Aleix Febas. Faye, 21, is known for his defensive strength, aerial dominance, and passing accuracy, qualities that fit perfectly with manager Claudio Giraldez's playing style.
Who is Abdoulaye Faye?
Faye arrived in Europe in 2023 with Swedish club BK Hacken before joining Bayer Leverkusen. Last season, he was loaned to French side FC Lorient, where he made 17 Ligue 1 appearances. Although the loan deal does not include an option to buy, Faye extended his contract with Bayer Leverkusen before joining Celta.
Impact on the team
Celta Vigo aim to establish themselves in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Europa League after finishing sixth in the 2025-26 season with 44 points (11 wins, 11 draws, and 9 losses). With a goal difference of +4 (44 scored, 40 conceded), the team looks to strengthen their defense ahead of their next match against Espanyol on February 28, 2027.
What's next?
Faye's arrival follows that of Aleix Febas, who signed a three-year contract after leaving Elche. With these signings, Celta Vigo are bolstering their squad for a challenging season in Spanish and European football.
