The Matchday 30 game of LaLiga was played at the Camp de Mestalla in front of 43,764 spectators. Valencia CF started with a high tempo and created several goal-scoring opportunities. Almeida nearly opened the scoring with an excellent free kick that Celta Vigo goalkeeper Radu had to tip over the bar for a corner. Guido Rodríguez scored the first goal for Valencia, capitalizing on a rebound and firing a low shot from outside the box (1-0).
After some disjointed minutes, Valencia CF had a chance to extend their lead with a header from Cömert off a cross from Nuñez, but it went wide. Celta Vigo dominated the game in the following spell and defended resolutely until halftime.
The Second Half
In the opening moments of the second half, Valencia CF had to contend with an attack from Celta Vigo. Guido made a great tackle to win the ball and stop the move. Shortly after, Jutglà missed a chance with a shot over the crossbar for the opposition.
Celta Vigo equalized when former Valencia player Ilaix Moriba poked a rebound in front of goal into the net (1-1). Four minutes later, Fer López scored Celta's second goal, widening the gap to 2-1.
Valencia CF made four substitutions: Sadiq, Beltrán, Ugrinic and Thierry came on for the home team. Rioja was close to equalizing with a free kick that grazed the post. Danjuma also entered the game in search of a comeback.
In the 81st minute, Williot Swedberg scored Celta's third goal (2-3). Two minutes later, Sadiq had a great chance to level, but his shot went wide. In stoppage time, Guido Rodríguez scored Valencia CF's second from a Sadiq cutback, but the equalizer was not enough.
